MARILYN ROTH obituary

CHINOOK - Marilyn Alice Roth, 73, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Northern Montana Care Center, after suffering from a short illness.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. next Tuesday in the Zion Lutheran Church with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery.

Marilyn was born June 26,

1931, on the family farm in Sutton, N.D., to William Jacob Rahlf and Alice Dorothea Leininger Rahlf. In 1942, the Rahlf family moved from the Sutton farm to a farm in Binford, N.D. This farm, where Marilyn had many childhood memories, stills stands today. Her four youngest brothers run the dairy business that occupies the farm. Marilyn was baptized on Aug. 31, 1931, in the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Binford, N.D. She was also confirmed to the Missouri Synod Lutheran faith in the Zion Lutheran Church on Aug. 28, 1947. Marilyn attended a rural school of Binford until the eighth grade, then attended high school in Sutton, N.D. and graduated in 1949. Marilyn went on to receive a teacher's certificate from Maryville College in 1951. After receiving her teaching certificate, Marilyn went on to teach in a rural school in Glen Ullin, N.D. She was boarding in the Roth family home, where she set her teaching skills to use teaching the younger Roth children to speak English, in addition to their fluent German. At the Roth household she met her husband, Harold.

Marilyn and Harold were married in Hebern, N.D., on Jan. 16, 1952. Marilyn and Harold continued to reside in North Dakota until 1955, when they moved to Circle. In March of 1969, Marilyn, Harold and their three boys moved to Chinook, where they purchased the Chinook Meat Shop. Marilyn worked at Chinook Meats for almost 30 years, until she sold the business in 1996. During those years, Marilyn perfected the art of wrapping meat to prevent freezer burn and also found time to cook meals for her family and play with her grandchildren.

Marilyn enjoyed bowling, bingo, fishing, camping and spending time with her three boys and their families. She especially enjoyed playing and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she frequently baby-sat.

She was a dedicated member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Chinook, as well as a member of the AAL-Thrivant group and the Eagles.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Roth; parents, William and Alice Rahlf; one sister; and one brother.

Survivors include sons, Terry (Kathy) Roth of Yakima, Wash., Randall (JoAnn) Roth of Fort Benton and Timothy (Janice) Roth of Chinook; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Kathleen Bear of rural Glenfield, N.D., Dorothy Everson of rural Hannaford, N.D., Patricia (Renald) Rickford of Jessie, N.D., and Alice (Chuck) DeHoff of rural Binford, N.D.; brothers, Bill (Nikki), Gerald, David, Daniel and Timothy Rahlf, all of rural Binford, N.D.

Memorials may be sent to the Zion Lutheran Church.
