WALTER ROBERTSON obituary

BIG SANDY - Walter F. Robertson, 80, of Big Sandy died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at his residence in Big Sandy due to cancer.

A prayer vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday, both at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in

Big Sandy with the Rev. Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Big Sandy Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the church immediately after the services at the graveside.

Walter was born May 3, 1925, in Big Sandy to Tony and Blanche (Wakefield) Robertson. He was raised and educated in Big Sandy and graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Margaret Christine Stremcha in June of 1944 in Great Falls. After the Navy, Walter and Margaret returned to Big Sandy to farm on the Robertson farm, where they raised their three sons.

Walter managed the Big Sandy Vets Club for 20 years. He also worked as the scorekeeper for all sports at the Big Sandy High School for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Rotary and Eagles. He also volunteered as a firefighter and for the Big Sandy Ambulance crew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Fern and Glenda; brothers, Allen, Ralph and Kenny; and grandson, Aaron.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Margaret, of Big Sandy; sons, Gary (Sharon) Robertson of Stockton, England, Dewey Robertson of Death Valley, Calif., and Bruce (Kerrie) Robertson of Laurel; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials in Walter's honor may be made to the Big Sandy Medical Center or to St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church.

Services and arrangements are entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
