SARAH WOEPPEL obituary

Sarah Louisa Woeppel, 88, a Havre homemaker and farmer died of natural causes on Thursday, May 5, 2005, at the home of her son, Allan Woeppel.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Havre Assembly of God Church. A luncheon will be held at the church fellowship hall immediately after the

service. A graveside service has already taken place in the Highland Cemetery at Havre.

Sarah Louisa was born Jan. 2, 1917, at Laird, Colo., to Millard G. Gilbert and Emma (Talmon) Gilbert Albro. Louisa and her family moved from Snyder, Colo., by covered wagon to Worland, Wyo. The family contracted out to do fall beet topping. The family moved many times and finally resided at Harlem, where Louisa attended school. Louisa graduated from Harlem High School in 1935.

She married Alfred J. Woeppel on June 8, 1935, in Chester. They made their home on the family farm north of Kremlin. They had two children, daughter Sharon and son Allan. Alfred died in August of 1967 and daughter Sharon Ellis died in December of 1992. Louisa loved to cook, bake, dance, play cards (especially pitch, she always claimed to have the low point), sew, fish, hunt, visiting with friends, and working in the back yard. Family get togethers were a special time for Louisa, especially all of the back yard picnics and family reunions at Zurich Park. Louisa enjoyed her grandchildren and playing many games with all of them. They were the love of her life. She looked forward to their visits and phone calls. Louisa always had a positive attitude about everything, and greeted everyone with a great big smile. Family would ask how she was doing and the answer was always the same, "Fine," or "OK."

Survivors include her son Allan (Kathleen) of Havre; sisters, Elsie K. Nelson and Lily (Dwayne) Kretchmer, all of Havre; Iris Hay of Hood River, Ore.; brothers, Lewis (Irene) Gilbert of Harlem, Quenton Gilbert of Acworth, Ga., Kenneth (Betty) Gilbert of Chester, Gaylord (Lola) Gilbert of Butte; sisters-in-law Rose Gilbert of Harlem and Virginia Gilbert of Bremerton, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Louisa was preceded in death by her parents, Millard and Emma (Albro) Gilbert; husband, Alfred Woeppel; daughter, Sharon Ellis; sisters, Flossie Bubnash and Lucy Bailey; brothers, John, Calvin, Andrew and Charlie Gilbert.

Memorials may be made to the Havre Assembly Youth Group, Havre Network of Praise Radio Station, Anchor Academy for Boys north of Havre or to the donor's choice.
