Shirley Grace Hoppe, 82, of Havre died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester of natural causes.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Alfred Ebel officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will follow.
Shirley was born May 29, 1922, to Lloyd and Wilma Totten in Pocatello, Idaho. She attended the Pocatello public schools, graduating from high school. Shirley entered into the Army Air Force in February of 1944. She served during World War II and was honorably discharged in January of 1946 as a sergeant. Shirley was a weather observer for the Army Air Force, which brought her to Havre to work at the weather station.
Shirley married Robert F. Hoppe on Oct. 9, 1948, in Havre. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Shirley started her own cake decorating business and was considered a cake decorating artist.She made many cakes for weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays. After her husband died, Shirley entered the Liberty County Nursing Home in 1978 and was a resident of the Home for over 27 years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Hoppe in 1977; and brother, Arthur Totten.
Survivors include her daughter, Marianne Hoppe of Havre; sons, Roger Hoppe of Havre, Robert Hoppe of Reno, Nev., and Richard Hoppe of Havre; sisters, Carol Morris of Brady and Lois Leonhart of McDonald, Ohio; brothers, Vern Totten of Deer Park, Wash., Richard Totten of Mead, Wash., and Clifford Totten of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials in Shirley's honor may be made to Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
