CHICAGO, Ill. - Yoshio "Yatzh" Kato, 86, of Chicago, Ill., died Friday, April 8, 2005, at his home of natural causes.
Memorial visitation will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Funeral Home in Chicago. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home.
Kato was born in Havre to Hachiemon Kato and Yoshiko (Iwata) Kato in July 1918.
He attended schools in Havre and graduated from Havre High School. He attended Northern Montana College and then joined the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper. He was active in football, basketball and track at Havre High and played basketball for the Northern Lights. He continued to enjoy sports throughout his life.
Upon his discharge, Yatzh settled in Chicago and married his wife, Jeanne. He worked for a commercial furniture firm in Chicago.
Yatzh was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harry Kato of Chicago, Ill., Ray Kato of Havre, Ted Kato of Thompson Falls and George Kato of Great Falls; and sister, Susie (Wally) Wong of Portland, Ore.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; daughters, Sharyl Kato and Kriston Kato; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Aki (Misato) Kato of Osaka, Japan, and Carole (Clyde) Moesinger of Anaheim, Calif .; brothers, Mark (Johanna) Kato of Havre and Frank (Nancy) Kato of New Castle, Wash .; sisters-in-law, Sachi Kato of Chicago, Ill., Lois Kato of Havre, Jean Kato of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and Arlene Kato of Great Falls; and numerous nephews and nieces.
