Shirley Mae Velk, 69, of Havre died Monday, April 11, 2005, at the Odyssey Hospice Care Facility in Mesa, Ariz.
A viewing for Shirley will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at
the Fifth
Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Rowlie Hutton officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery. There will be a fellowship luncheon at the church immediately after the services at the graveside.
Shirley was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Havre to Mike and Mae (Gardner) Sisson. She was raised and educated in Havre.
Shirley married Richard Velk on Sept. 19, 1952, in Havre. They lived on the family farm north of Havre for many years and raised their three children. Shirley worked on the farm with her husband, Richard, for many years. They enjoyed snowbirding to Arizona in the winters. Shirley enjoyed beads, jewelry and her water exercise classes.
She was a member of the Fifth Avenue Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, John Alvstad; and sister-in-law, Mary Lee Velk.
Survivors include her husband, Richard "Dick" Velk of Havre; daughters, Debra Velk of Denver, Colo., and Julie (Todd) Winchell of Denver, Colo.; son, Mike (Penny) Velk of Havre; sisters, Clo (Ernie) Faechner of Havre, Judy (Bruce) Waldhausen of Culbertson and Denna (Dick) Maney of Missoula; three grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
