JOHANNA HANSON obituary

Johanna "Grandma Jennie" Hanson, 83, of Havre died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Northern Montana Hospital of lung cancer.

A prayer vigil/rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Jude's Catholic Church with her funeral Mass Tuesday at St. Jude's Catholic Church with

the Rev. Robert D. Grosch officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Jennie was born Sept. 8, 1921, at Center, N.D., to Monica and Florian Mosbrucker on her grandparents' farm with a midwife in attendance. In 1928, the family moved to Senate, Saskatchewan. In 1938, the family moved to a farm north of Havre. Jennie went to work at the Sacred Heart Hospital.

She met Walter Hanson, who also farmed north of Havre, and they were married Aug. 29, 1942, in Havre. The couple continued farming until Walter's death in March of 1971, at which time Jennie and her family moved to Havre. Jennie worked various jobs in Havre, including Coast to Coast and the First Lutheran Day Care. She retired in 2003 at the age of 81.

Faith and family were the center of Jennie's life. For as many years as her family can remember, she had a gathering every Sunday morning at her house for family and friends. She considered this time as one of the great joys of her life. Jennie was a dedicated supporter of Havre Youth Hockey since its inception, when the team played on Fifth Avenue.

Jennie had a pacemaker implanted in October 2001. The family donated the pacemaker to the Heart Too Heart organization.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter Hanson in 1971, a brother Frank, one infant grandson, one infant granddaughter and one infant great granddaughter.

Survivors include her daughter, Gloria (Gene) Allen of Havre; sons, Richard (Doris), Herb (Peggy), Jerry (Linda) and Ken Hanson, all of Havre; sisters, Pat Garding, Margaret McNair and Mary (Herb) Armstrong, all of Billings, Odelia (Tom) Mitschke of Bremerton, Wash., and Anna (Russell) Rismon of Havre; sister in-law, Bonnie Mosbrucker of Havre; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Jennie's honor may be made to Havre Youth Hockey or the Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen.
