MANUEL MORTON obituary

EL DORADO, Ark. - Manuel Malcolm Morton, U.S. Army retired, 91, of El Dorado, Ark., died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Hillsboro Manor Nursing Home in El Dorado.

A graveside service was scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Walls officiating.

He was born Jan. 6, 1914, at Havre to William Rupert Morton and Carrie Frances Tucker Morton.

He served three tours of duty with the U.S. Army and retired with the rank of captain. He served in World War II with the 6th Armored Division in the European Theater. Following his military career, he worked for the Martin Corporation and helped develop and build the Titan ICBM. He was also an instructor of instrumentation at S.W. Tech Institute. One of his last jobs was helping build the Alaskan pipeline in Valdez, Alaska. He eventually retired to care for his wife.

He was a member of the First Church of God of El Dorado for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Lee McMurrain Morton; parents; sisters, Virginia Davey and Pauline Davey; and brother, Henry Morton.

Survivors include his children, Malcolm "Sonny" (Carol Krell) Morton of Fairfield Bar, Ark., Rozanne (Frank) Pope of El Dorado, Patricia (Glenn) Weber of Hillsboro, Ore., and Michael J. Morton of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Ruby Martin of Turner, Ore.; former daughter-in-law, Patricia Meagher; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
