TOWANDA, Pa. - Donna Bendo, 56, died at her home Sunday, March 20, 2005, after a brief struggle with cancer.
A private viewing for family and friends will be held March 25 and 26 at Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home in Towanda before cremation.
Donna was born Oct. 26, 1948, in Rockville Centre, N.Y. She grew up in Malverne, N.Y. She was in the last graduating class of the Bellevue School of Nursing in 1969.
Donna worked in nursing at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and as an office nurse in Biddeford, Me., and Sault Ste. Marie, Mich, before moving to Havre, where she worked as an office nurse in her husband's urology practice between 1988 and 2002. In 2002, she retired from nursing and moved with her husband to Washington, Pa., and most recently to Towanda, Pa.
Donna enjoyed gardening, cross-stitch, crocheting and other crafts, as well as keeping in touch with her friends in Havre and elsewhere.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, John Bendo; son, George Bendo of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Elisabeth (Derek Halverson) Martin of Philadelphia, Pa.; brother, Edward (Ingrid) Martin of Beaver Creek, Ohio; sisters, Virginia (Roger French) Martin of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rochelle (William Marquette) Martin of Big Bear Lake, Calif; nieces, Erika (John) Swogger of Fairborn, Ohio, and Katie Pomeroy of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
