BIG SANDY - Wilfred A. Berlinger, 84, died, Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the Big Sandy Medical Center of natural causes.
A Mass of Christian burial was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Big Sandy
Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Big Sandy Veterans of Foreign Wars. A vigil service was scheduled for Sunday evening at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
He was born July 16, 1920, to John and Katherine (Joa) Berlinger in Canada at Maple Creek, and moved back to Dutton at 6 months. He lived there for the first nine years and moved to Big Sandy in 1929. In 1941, he was drafted into the Army Air Corp, where he trained in Kansas City, Mo. He was stationed at the Aleutian Islands until his discharge in 1945. He came home and worked the home place until 1955. He purchased a place of his own in 1952.
On Oct. 8, 1955, he married Agnes Eileen O'Malley and set up house.
He was a lifetime member of the Big Sandy VFW and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; brothers, Gerald, Charles and Leopold; and sisters, Mildred and Ilene.
Survivors include his children, Sharon (John) Field of Big Sandy, Wesley (Janae) Berlinger of Big Sandy, and Patricia (Bill) Richardson of Pendroy; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Terry) Berlinger; and sister-in-law, Florence Rose of Big Sandy.
Memorials can be made to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Big Sandy Fire Dept. or to one's own choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Benton Funeral Home.
