J. MARIE HAVSKJOLD obituary

J. Marie Havskjold, 96, of Minot, N.D., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at a Minot nursing home.

A funeral service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minot. Interment will be later in the spring in Highland Park Cemetery in Havre.

Julia Marie was born Feb. 26, 1908, on the family homestead near Larson,

N.D. to the Rev. Adolf and Ida Marie (Isakson) Buckneberg. She grew up helping in the church by playing the organ, working with the choir, and

occasionally teaching her dad's confirmation classes. She later pursued a teaching career at Minot State College, and helped to support her family by sending money home. She and a sister, Valborg, taught school together for three years in a consolidated school near Battleview, N.D.

Her teaching brought her to a school in Kremlin, where she met Knute Havskjold. They were married in 1940.

They continued to live in Kremlin and had two daughters and a long and happy marriage. Knute preceded her in death in 1986. Marie resided with her daughter Karen for a number of years. Marie loved music, gardening, flowers, quilting, writing letters and especially reading. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Minot.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Knute; brother, Julien; and sisters, Ada and Thelma.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Larry) Atwood, Minot and Judy (the Rev. Eddie) Fallo of Kremlin; three grandchildren; sisters, Valborg Zander of Bismarck, N.D., and Arlene (Richard) Ydstie of Seaside, Ore .; brother, Adolph (Doris) Buckneberg, Hot Springs, Ark .; and many nieces and nephews.
