ETHEL WARD obituary

Ethel Charlotte Ward, 94, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the Northern Montana Care Center.

A memorial service was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel with Ila McClenahan officiating. A fellowship luncheon was to follow at the VFW Club immediately after the memorial service. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, N.D.

Ethel was born May 27, 1910, in Germantown, Minn., to Charles Peter and Anna Marie (Olson) Cook. She attended school in various places in Minnesota.

She married Elzie (Mike) Ward on Dec. 14, 1931, in Sidney. The couple moved to Havre in 1958. Prior to their move to Havre, they moved to

Fairview, N.D. In Sidney, she worked at Yellowstone Mercantile, and in Havre, Ethel worked at J.C. Penney and Company for many years until she retired.

Ethel volunteered at the elementary schools in Havre, helping with a reading program. She also volunteered at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, helping with the coffee cart and flower deliveries. While raising her family, she was active in PTA, 4-H Club, Ladies Aid, and was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church. Ethel was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview, N.D., and she was also a member of the Rebeccah's Lodge of Fairview.

Ethel loved ceramics, sewing and flowers. She was well known for her baking, especially her cookies, which she shared with all friends and family. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life was spent doing for others in times of illness or just out of the kindness of her heart and compassion for them.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Mildred; and sons-in-law, Ray Hilderman and Don Propp.

Survivors include her son; James (Judy) Ward of Havre; daughters, Betty (Reuben) Hegge of Williston, N.D., Jean Hilderman of Scottsbluff, Neb., Shirley Propp of Azle, Texas, and Janice (Charles) Jacobson of Fayetteville, N.C.; sister Alice Zemlicka of West Bend, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
