ALECK SCHNURR obituary

GREAT FALLS - Aleck F. Schnurr, 86, former Havre resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at a Great Falls rest home of natural causes.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Great Falls. A private family burial service will take place later at the Montana

State Veterans Cemetery in Helena.

Aleck was born June 7, 1918, to Joseph and Elizabeth Schnurr in Billings. He was raised in Billings and attended school there.

In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed off the coast of California during World War II. He was discharged in 1945 and returned home to Billings.

On June 5, 1945, he married Margaret Degenhart at Saint Patrick's Church in Billings.

He worked for Pierce Packing in Billings until 1957, when he moved to Havre to work for Buttrey's Meats. In 1971, Aleck was transferred to Great Falls, where he worked until he retired in 1977.

Aleck and Margaret enjoyed many happy years together. They had fun traveling all over the United States and taking cruises with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, cards and woodworking.

Aleck was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, Johnny, Pete and Tony; and sister, Ann.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Schnurr of Great Falls; sons, Gary (Sue) Schnurr of Great Falls, J.D. (Nancy) Schnurr of Medford, Ore., and Rod (Kristen) Schnurr of Denver, Colo.; daughters, Joan (Dennis) Hensley of Lakeside and Jude (Terry) Sheppard of Chinook; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Barber of Laurel.
