CLYDE POUNDS obituary

MINOT, N.D. - Clyde J. Pounds, of Minot, N.D., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at a Minot hospital.

A funeral was held Monday morning at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home in Minot.

Clyde was born April 6, 1928, in Minot to Henry and Alice (Walker) Pounds. He was raised and educated at Minot and attended Minot Model High School.

Clyde enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 6, 1946, and served during World War II. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged on Feb. 9, 1948.

He worked as an apprentice brick layer for a short time after his discharge. He then assisted as a hired hand on the Jack Peterson farm, west of Minot. He later worked on the Walter Yuly farm. He also worked at Boise Cascade Homes as a carpenter. After retirement, Clyde was employed by the Green Thumb in Minot.

Clyde married Marcella Nigel and they had two children. He then married Shirley (Pierson) Neumiller and they had four children. They later divorced, but remained friends until her death. He was also married to Betty Witherup and they had three children. He lived in Havre, Billings and Minot. In August 2004, he entered Trinity Homes in Minot.

Clyde enjoyed going to casinos, playing bingo and cards, and putting puzzles together. He was a wonderful carpenter and had a green thumb.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett Pounds, Earl Pounds and Robert Pounds; sisters, Emma George and Edna Helland; and two infant siblings, Eddie and Esther.

Survivors include his daughters, Colleen (Dean) Copper and Coreen Hart of Minot, April Marsh and Pam (Don) Bender of Washington, and Patti (Rex) Wilhite of Louisiana; sons, Van (Colleen) Pounds of Minot, David Pounds of Minot, Joseph Witherup and C.J. Pounds; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret (Richard) Frey and Ferne Redding of Minot, Evelyn Jesson of Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
