MAXINE SWEENEY obituary

Maxine Opal (Menzel) Sweeney, 96, died Jan. 6, 2005, at Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.

Her funeral service will be 10 a.m.

Wednesday at Altstadt-Tyborski-Ermenc-McLeod Funeral Home in West Milwaukee, Wis. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Franksville, Wis.

Maxine was born Dec. 6, 1908, to Max and Inger (Hanson) Menzel in Kenosha, Wis. Maxine attended Kenosha High School and graduated as the valedictorian of her class. She then attended the University of Wisconsin.

She married Joseph H. Sweeney Sr. on Aug. 19, 1935, in Kenosha, Wis. The couple had two children. Maxine worked at Woods Veterans Administration Hospital for 35 years and was asked to retire at the age of 78. Maxine resided at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre since January of 2000.

Maxine loved world travel, decorating, flower arranging and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Sweeney Sr. 96; sisters, Wilma and Melva; and brother, Eugene Menzel.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Shirilla of Havre; son, Joseph Sweeney Jr. of Franklin, Wis.; brother, Morris Menzel of Greendale, Wis.; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Altstadt-Tyborski-Ermenc-McLeod Funeral Home.
