EVELYN GEORGE obituary

Evelyn George of Havre died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004.

Burial will be in the Hill County Cemetery in Havre. A memorial service will be held at the

Assembly of God Church in Havre on Thursday at 2 p.m.

She was born on May 15, 1920, to Lee and Genie Estell in Kermit, N.D., where she was raised and attended

school through her sophomore year in high school. She and her two sisters and one brother lived with their parents on a farm.

In 1935, the family moved to Havre. Evelyn worked at Deaconess Hospital for one year and then went back to school, graduating from Havre High School in 1938.

While working at the hospital, she met Ralph George, who was visiting his father at the hospital. They were married Aug. 10, 1938.

Ralph worked for a time on the building of Fresno Dam. They purchased a small travel trailer and traveled to where construction work was. They spent time in Minnesota, worked in Bremerton, Wash., at the naval yard and in Tillamook, Ore. They then moved to Kalispell.

In 1948, the family moved back to Havre. Evelyn became an active member of the Assembly of God Church, joining the women's group and teaching Sunday school. About 1988 she was a part of a group of people who started the Pentecostal Church of God, called Highland Park Chapel. Evelyn told an illustrated story every Sunday for opening exercises in Sunday school, was the church treasurer and used her musical abilities to sing specials. In her later years, Evelyn again became a member the Havre Assembly of God, where she taught a women's Bible study for many years.

Evelyn worked for the Havre Chamber of Commerce after her daughters graduated from high school. In 1964 she went to work at the Havre Junior High School as the secretary for principal Wilbur Swenson. She retired in 1983.

In 2002, eight years after the death of her husband, she moved to Missoula to be closer to her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ralph; her sister, Floris; a brother, Lloyd; and two grandsons, Patrick Warwick and Brian Benson.

Evelyn is survived by a sister, Blanche Hanson of Mesa, Ariz; three children, Deanna (Tom) Warwick of Missoula, Linda Benson of Austin, Texas, and Lewis (Melony) George of Richardson, Texas; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
