GLADYS DeLONG obituary

Gladys Lenore (Lyon) DeLong, 88, of Havre died Dec. 9, 2004, at Northern Montana Care Center due to natural causes. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at a later time.

Gladys was born in Dunseith, N.D., on Feb. 13, 1916, the fourth of five children of George and Flora (Hart) Lyon. She received her schooling in Pine River, Saskatschewan, and Alkabo, N.D. When Gladys was 7 years old, her mother took Gladys and her three sisters and a brother in a covered wagon to homestead in Pine River. They lived there for about three years before returning to Dunseith and then Alkabo.

After her marriage to Arthur DeLong in Malta in 1934, they lived in Alkabo for some time and then moved to Seattle, where Gladys worked for Boeing. After her husband's discharge from the U.S. Navy, they moved back to Alkabo and then in 1949 moved to Havre.

While in Havre, Gladys worked for the Morris Caf, the Dutch Caf, the Elks Club, Buttreys' Coffee Shop and the Montana Caf. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, a brother and her husband, Arthur, who died Nov. 23.

Gladys is survived by four children, LaDonna (Bill) Wright of Jordan; Dennis (Vera) DeLong of Anchorage, Alaska, Dale (Phyllis) DeLong of Havre, and Bonnie (LeRoy) Kretchmer of Redding, Calif.; several stepsisters and stepbrothers; 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
