LAWRENCE TURGEON obituary

Lawrence (Larry) Turgeon, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at his residence in Havre.

His memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.

Larry was born July 7, 1915, in St. Paul, Minn., to Mariza Sabourin Turgeon and Joseph A. Turgeon. After his parents died, he and his brothers lived at Father Flannigan's Boys Town. From Boys Town, Larry studied at the Meritz Seminary for the priesthood. He was a brother in the order but left shortly before becoming ordained. Larry joined the Civil Conservation Corps during the Depression. Later he moved to Havre, where he worked at Eddy's Bakery. He then met his future wife, Syble Estella Walsh, and they were married in 1940.

During World War II Larry joined the Coast Guard. He served on a troop transport Ship in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and received numerous medals and awards. After the war he returned to Havre and his job at Eddy's Bakery, where he worked for 38 years. After he retired, he and his wife traveled around the country before moving back to Havre.

His favorite hobbies were coin collecting and bowling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Syble; and brothers, Clifford and Richard Turgeon.

Larry is survived by: brothers, Victor, Leonard and Willard; his children, Richard Turgeon of Henderson, Nev., and Robert Turgeon of Helena; a granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

Memorials in Larry's honor may be made to a memorial of one's choice. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
