MELVIN MICKELSON obituary

Melvin Allan Mickelson, 54, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at his home in Havre of natural causes.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel. A potluck luncheon will be held at the Shanty Bar immediately after

the memorial service.

Melvin was born to Paul and Helen (Schach) Mickelson in Rugby, N.D., on June 16, 1950. At the age of 7, Mel received his first guitar and music became his life-long passion. His family soon moved to Havre where he attended and graduated from Havre High School. While in high school, Mel won the battle of the bands.

He left Montana after high school to pursue his love of music at a national level. His ability as a bass player earned him a reputation as a skilled professional, and he played with acclaimed performers such as Chuck Berry, in cities across America. He lived in Minnesota for the past 20 years, enjoying country living, and weekends at his cabin in Wisconsin, prior to returning to Havre this past year to be near his mother.

His hobbies included motorcycling, snowmobiles, and walking his dog, Doc. Mel was looking forward to becoming a grandfather in January. Throughout Mel's life he was known for his kindness and easy going spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and dog, Doc.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul (Bimbo) Mickelson, and sister, Carol Davey.

Mel is survived by his mother, Helen Mickelson, of Havre; daughter, Shevin (Michael) Okronglis of Prior Lake, Minn .; Shevin's mother, Peggy Godfrey of Aransass Pass, Texas; sister, Kathy (John) Perrier of Bartlesville, Okla .; brother-in-law Mike Davey of Havre; former wife, Loila Mickelson of St. Paul, Minn .; and nephews, Jessie and Dylan.

Memorials may be made to one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
