CYRIL MORRISON obituary

Cyril Murray Morrison, 90, longtime Havre businessman and pharmacist, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at a Havre care center of natural causes.

Viewing is today from noon until 5 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyter-ian Church, 701 Fourth Ave, Havre.

Cy was Montana

born and a Montana man all his life. Chinook was his early home and he grew up there, learning to love sheep ranching and the hills, rivers, creeks and coulees of the Montana prairie. He graduated from the University of Montana, School of Pharmacy in 1939.

Cy married Dorothy Halverson on Jan. 14, 1939, beginning a love affair that lasted all their lives. War came in 1941 and Cy joined the U.S. Navy in January 1942. Their son was born while Cy's ship YMS 407 was sweeping for mines in Boston Harbor in 1944. Cy served until January 1946, when he mustered out as a chief pharmacist's mate at Bremerton, Wash. He moved back to Montana and never left.

Cy and Dorothy began peacetime life in Helena, where Cy worked as a pharmacist. Cy and Dorothy returned to Havre, where Cy and his father, Angus Morrison, decided to open a drug store and soda fountain. Morrison Drug opened in 1949 and became a small Havre institution, hosting the Morrison Coffee Club until the day Cy retired.

Cy retired happily to spend his days playing cribbage with Dorothy and fishing and hunting the Northern Plains of Montana with his great friends Art Anderson and Fred Miller.

Cy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a grand master of Havre Masonic Lodge 55, a Shriner, a Lion and an Elk, and a great fan of the Havre Blue Ponies and the University of Montana Grizzlies.

Cy's life was about family and friends. He had many and he loved and cherished them all.

Cy was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; brother, Donald; and sisters, Kay and Margaret.

Survivors include his son, Duncan (Lynda) Morrison of Snohomish, Wash.; daughters, Marge Popham of Missoula, Kathy Maloughney of Great Falls and Beth (Bob) Williams of Havre; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Miriam Burns of Bigfork.

Arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
