MARK KEMP obituary

DEL RIO, Texas - Mark Randall Kemp, 51, former assistant chief patrol agent for the Havre Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Del Rio.

Visitation was held Sunday at Del Rio Funeral Home in Del Rio and a memorial service was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Del Rio Memorial Park.

Mark was born on May, 14, 1953, at Hale Center, Texas, to Steve and Frances Kemp. The family moved to Del Rio in 1955, where Mark attended North Heights Elementary school and Del Rio Junior High School. He graduated from Del Rio High School in 1971.

Mark was in 4-H, Pop Warner Baseball and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Del Rio. He was a member of the student council in high school and was proud to be a Del Rio High Wildcat. After graduation, he attended Southwest Texas State University at San Marcos, where he majored in criminal justice. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and later became its president. He was also a member of the Del Rio Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks Lodge.

Mark entered the U.S. Border Patrol on March 15, 1976. His first duty assignment was Comstock Station. He then transferred to Little Rock Station, Ark., in 1978. He transferred to Marfa Station, Texas, in 1984 and was promoted to supervisor in 1988. He was selected, promoted and transferred as assistant chief patrol agent at Havre Sector in October 1996. He was in transit for reassignment to Del Rio Sector Border Patrol as assistant chief patrol agent at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Malissa Lindsay Kemp; sons, Matthew and Michael; mother, Frances Kemp of Brownwood, Texas; sisters, Jill (Bob) Pankey of San Marcos, Texas, and Lynn (Dan) Humeniuk of Brownwood, Texas; eight nieces; 10 nephews; mother-in-law, Billie Christopher of Marfa, Texas; two brothers- and sisters-in-law; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorials may be made to the U.S. Border Patrol Museum in El Paso, Texas, or to the donor's choice.
