MEDFORD, Ore. - Jerome D. "Jerry" Mattern, 67, died Friday, Oct. 8, at the Rogue Valley Medical Facility in Medford, Ore., of natural causes.
Viewing will be 2 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Jude's Catholic
Church with Domenico Pizzonia officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Cemetery. There will be a fellowship luncheon immediately after the graveside services at the St. Jude Parish Center.
Jerry was born on July 29, 1937, in Rugby, N.D., to Wendlin and Mary Ann (Schmidt) Mattern. He attended school in Rugby and graduated in 1956 from Rugby High School.
On Oct. 10, 1956, he married Gloria A. Rondall in Spokane, Wash. After the marriage, the couple lived in Seattle, Wash., while Jerry worked for Boeing Aircraft Company. They later moved to Rugby, N.D., and in 1965 they moved to Havre, where he worked for New Holland Ranch Equipment Supply as a salesman. He later became a manager. The couple owned and operated the Sunset Drive-In outdoor movie theater, Havre Theater, Cinema One & Cinema Two, and also the Village Theater. In 1989, the couple sold the theaters and moved to Central Point, Ore. In Central Point, Jerry worked for Naumes Equipment Company and retired in 2002.
Jerry's hobbies included flying model airplanes, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one infant sister, and one infant daughter.
Survivors include his wife Gloria A. Mattern of Central Point, Ore.; daughters, Sharyl (Jerry) Shakal of Havre and Tammy (Ralph) Frasier of Ridgecrest, Calif.; son, Brian (Paula) Mattern of Havre; sisters, Rose (Robert) Lee of Minot, N.D., and Elizabeth Mattern of Minneapolis, Minn.; brothers, Robert (Myrna) Mattern Farmington, Minn., Tim (Rose) Mattern of Grand Forks, N.D., and Roger (Alice) Mattern of Grand Forks, N.D.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials in honor of Jerome may be made to the American Heart Association, 510 First Ave. N., Room 114, Great Falls, MT 59401, to the Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2411, Great Falls, MT 59403, or to a person's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
