LEON STUMP SR. obituary

ROCKY BOY - Leon Wayne Stump Sr., 52, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, as the result of a train accident in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A wake service began Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church at Rocky Boy. A funeral service was scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Our Saviour's

Lutheran Church at Rocky Boy with the Rev. Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial was to follow at Rocky Boy Cemetery.

Leon was born to Pat and Julia (Wolf Walker) Stump on Jan. 4, 1952, at Rocky Boy. He obtained a GED and then attended the South Western Indian Polytechnic Institute in Albuquerque, N.M. and graduated as a telecommunications technician. He then attended Montana State University-Billings and majored in computer science. During high school, he was a runner up for Golden Gloves boxing and he also was a bull rider in his early 20s. Leon was certified to be a Montana Indian Fire Fighter with the Lame Deer and Crow Indian reservations.

Leon met and married Janice Eben in 1972. They were blessed with five wonderful children.

Leon was a very quiet and nice person. He never had bad words for anyone. He loved and enjoyed children, respected his elders, and loved his sisters and brothers. He was loved and respected throughout Indian Country. He was a firm believer and respected Indian religious ceremonies.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Ann Stump of Reno, Nev .; brothers, William Stump Sr. and Darrell Stump; sister, Joyce (Stump) Stewart; and nieces, Sonya Sunchild and Heather Not Afraid.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Lorie Stump of Reno, Nev .; sons, Lyle Stump of Reno, Nev., Toby Stump of Reno Nev., Jamie Stump of Reno, Nev .; sisters, Valeria Ann (McKinley) Iron of Billings, Jobyna Rae Red Star of Billings, Carmella Not Afraid of Billings, Kathleen Goggles of Rocky Boy and Dorothy Crane of Rocky Boy; brothers, Leslie (Ethelene) Stump Sr. of Lame Deer, Glenn (Betty) Stump of Gallup, N.M., Vidal (Ruby) Stump of Rocky Boy, George S. Denny of Rocky Boy; adopted uncle, Frances (Evelyn) Eagle Man of Rocky Boy; adopted brothers, Sierra McPherron of Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Pat Goggles of Ethete, Wyo .; and numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and relatives at Rocky Boy.
