HHS golf team greeted by tough courses, competition at Flatfish

Difficult courses and strong competition is what both Havre High golf teams were up against the past two days at the Flatfish Invitational golf tournament in Kalispell and Whitefish.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament played at Buffalo Hills in Kalispell and Whitefish Lakes South Course in Whitefish was the final tune-up for the HHS golf teams before they head to the Central A divisional tournament in Lewistown this weekend.

The Havre High boys team finished with a two-day total score of 674. As expected, the tournament was captured by the host Whitefish Bulldogs and medalist honors went to Whitefish standout Spencer Hughes, who fired an opening round 66 and followed that up with a 74 on Tuesday to win the tournament.

The Ponies were led by senior Ben Erickson and sophomore Matt Hedstrom. Both players finished the tournament with identical 167 scores and rounds of 87-80 each day. Brandon Job was also strong for the Ponies. Job shot consistent rounds of 84-85 to finish with a 169 total for the two days.

The HHS girls team finished in seventh place over the two-day tournament with a total score of 852. The Whitefish girls made it a team sweep finishing in first place with a 734 total. Helena High standout Darah Newell easily captured medalist honors with rounds of 76-71 for a total of 147.

The Ponies got another very solid performance from senior Brittany Job, who shot rounds of 93-94 to finish in seventh place overall. Job has finished in the top 10at every tournament this season. Sophomore Ali Ward came in with rounds of 95-103, and steadily improving freshman Stacy Sheppard finished the tournament with scores of 110 and 114.

Next up for the Ponies is the Central A divisional tournament in Lewistown on Saturday
