VAL MURRI obnituary

TWIN FALLS, Idaho, - Val E. Murri, 91, of Twin Falls, Idaho, died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 6, 2004.

A funeral service was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls. Interment with military honors

will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Cemetery in Havre.

Val was born on May 25, 1913, in Saint Anthony, Idaho, to Ernest and Eliza Baer Murri. He grew up and received his formal education through the eighth grade in Saint Anthony. He then worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the Army in January of 1942. He served in Europe and North Africa during World War II. Due to a back injury, he received a disability discharge and was released from active duty in October of 1945. While in the service, he attained the rank of staff sergeant. After his discharge, he attended Barber School in Salt Lake City, Utah, and graduated in 1946.

While in Salt Lake City, Val met Leone Kennedy. They eventually married on March 17, 1946. Leone brought to this marriage, a daughter, Barbara Ann. Val moved the family to Lewistown in 1947, where he began work for the Henry Brandt Barber Shop. On Oct. 5, 1947, Val Jr. was born.

Later, Val and fellow barber Floyd Wolfe formed a partnership and established the Murri/Wolfe Barber Shop. In 1972, while in Lewistown, Leone died. Val retired from his business in December of 1974.

While attending his father's 98th birthday party, Val renewed an old friendship and as a result married Mae Rasmussen on March 5, 1973. They lived in Lewistown, until Val's retirement in 1974.

Val was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren and his first wife, Leone.

Survivors include his wife, Mae of Twin Falls; son, Val (Karen) Murri of Havre; daughters, Barbara Ann (Don) Nish of Bountiful, Utah, Gwenia Callao of McDermitt, Nev. and Jeanie (Sid) Vicker of Boise, Idaho; brothers, Dean (Fae) Murri of Kimberly, Idaho, and Bob (Irma) Murri of Salem, Ore.; 27 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
