DALLAS HOWARD obituary

FRAZER - Dallas Edward Howard III, 20 of Wolf Point, whose Indian name was Toga, Enemy Boy, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at the University of Utah Hospital due to injuries from a car crash in Frazer on Saturday.

A wake was set for Wednesday evening at the Frazer Community Hall. A funeral service was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Frazer High School with

interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Dal was born on Dec. 17, 1983, in Wolf Point to Dallas E. Howard III and Gaylene Stump. He graduated valedictorian of his class from Fazer High School in 2002. In junior high school, he thrilled the crowd by dunking the basketball. He was chosen all-conference in his freshman, sophomore, and junior years in high school. He traveled to play in numerous basketball tournaments throughout Montana, as well as tournaments in North and South Dakota, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and Nebraska. He broke school records in shooting, rebounds, free throws and steals. On Jan. 27, 2001, Dal broke the school record for most points in a game with 59. His ability to 'wow' the crowd was credited with filling the gym with standing-room-only crowds.

Dal took a full basketball scholarship to Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyo., and later transferred to Sitting Bull College in North Dakota, then to United Tribes Tech College in Bismarck, N.D., with a full basketball scholarship, to be closer to his family. He later transferred to Montana State University-Northern.

Dallas' hobbies included basketball, hunting, fishing, watching movies, chilling and cruising with friends. His latest hobby was Internet surfing for his favorite Pontiac cars.

Dal worked with his dad and uncles in construction. He loved to travel to basketball tournaments. He was a role model and inspiration to all his friends and the youth in the Frazer community. Dal was openly affectionate with his family and friends in his greetings. He loved basketball and his truck.

Survivors include his father, Dallas E. (Casyce) Howard Jr. of Frazer; mother, Gaylene (Steven) Stump of Frazer; brothers, Zachary and Nathan of Frazer; sisters, Jordan, Payton, and Kristen of Frazer; expectant fiance, Marissa Wells of New Town, N.D .; paternal grandparents, Merle Clampitt of Frazer and Dallas Howard Sr. of Ft. Belknap; maternal grandparents, Ruth "Tootsie" Long of Pine Ridge, S.D.

Dal was preceded in death by Albert Marvin Long Jr. and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and extended family.
