HINGHAM - Robert Wesley "Bob" Petrick, 86, of Hingham died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at his home.

A funeral service was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Hingham Lutheran Church. Burial with military rites was to follow at the Hingham Cemetery.

Bob was born on July

14, 1918, at Hingham to Albert and Clara (Olson) Petrick. He grew up in Hingham and received his formal education there. He graduated from Hingham High School in 1936. He continued his schooling at Northern Montana College in Havre, Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and Montana State College in Bozeman, where he studied electrical engineering.

Bob was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served during World War II. He received training as an armament and chemical officer and attained the rank of first lieutenant. He received his honorable discharge in 1945. He returned to Montana and began farming.

Bob married Margaret Alice Twedt on Sept. 28, 1946, at Hingham Lutheran Church. They built a new home in Hingham in 1948. In addition to farming, Bob operated Petrick TV Sales and Service out of his home from 1962 to 1985. He specialized in sales, installation and service of Zenith television sets. He officially retired from both businesses in 1985. From 1990 to 2000, Bob and Margaret enjoyed winters in Phoenix, Ariz. Bob's health began to fail, so they spent the past few winters in Hingham.

Bob was baptized and confirmed at Hingham Lutheran Church, held nearly every office on the church council over the years, served on many committees and taught Sunday school for 20 years. He also belonged to the Sons of Norway in Havre and the American Legion in Chester. Bob was on the Hingham Town Council and was a member of the Hingham School Board for nine years.

One of his favorite pastimes was driving around the area and checking out the crops.

Bob played basketball his four years in high school and remained an avid sports fan, especially of his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed baseball, bowling and golf. In his early years, he was a Montana State University Bobcat fan, but switched allegiance to the University of Montana Grizzlies in recent years.

His hobbies included woodworking, the challenge of TV repair, gardening and playing cards, especially bridge, whist and cribbage. He and Margaret enjoyed their annual family vacations to Whitefish, and took several memorable trips, particularly to Germany, Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Alvin "Pinky"; and granddaughter, Kathryn Brooke Petrick.

Survivors include his wife Margaret; sons, Ronald (Debby) of Hingham, Terry of Hingham, Bruce of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Ray (Lynn) of Hingham; daughter, Barbara of Lake Oswego, Ore.; three grandsons; and sister, Clarice Petrick of Chester.

Memorials may be made to the Bear Paw Hospice at Havre, the Hingham Lutheran Church or a donor's choice.

Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel, Chester.
