MILDRED F. SEDIVY obituary

HINGHAM - Mildred Fern (Alex) Sedivy, 94, died on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at a Havre nursing facility.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Hingham Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Hingham Cemetery.

Mildred was born to Anthony and Nettie (Greb) Alex on July 15, 1910, at Kensal, N.D. Her family came to Montana and homesteaded nine miles north of Hingham. Mildred received her early education at the Huey Country School, then finished her formal schooling in Hingham.

Mildred married Vincent Sedivy on Nov. 24, 1930, in Hingham, where they lived throughout their married life. In those early years, they owned and operated the Ford Garage at Hingham and also had interest in the Ford dealership at Cut Bank. In 1932, they built the White Eagle Service Station in Hingham, now known as the Hi-Way Bar & Service Station. In 1948, they sold the business and began farming at two locations - south of Inverness and east of Hingham.

Mildred enjoyed her life as farm wife, homemaker and mother. She and Vincent were married 27 years at the time of his death in 1957. Mildred remained a widow and continued to live in their Hingham home for more than 40 years. When her health began to fail in 2000, she transferred to the Northern Montana Care Center in Havre, where she was fortunate to live with her two sisters prior to their deaths.

Mildred loved her home, where she enjoyed her skills in sewing, crocheting and cooking. She sewed and mended numerous clothing items for community friends over the years. In her later years, she made wonderful garments for her grandchildren. She also made many doilies and afghans for her relatives and friends. Her cooking and baking talents were exceptional; her family will always remember her delicious breads, buns, pies, cookies and dumplings.

Mildred enjoyed playing cards. Her favorite card games were Whist, Kings-in-the Corners and Crazy 8's. She also enjoyed playing a board game called Aggravation. As a hobby, she collected thimbles. She loved to go shopping.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Ed, Harry, Tony, Glen and John Alex; sisters, Myrtle Ditmar and Eleanor Rathbun; and a special friend, Charles Vakoch.

Survivors include her sons, Vincent Sedivy Jr. of Trego and Jim (Joyce) Sedivy of Swan Lake; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Undesignated memorials will be given to the Hingham Lutheran Church.

Arrangement are by the Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester.
