JANICE FUNK obituary

BRIER, Wash. - Janice Marie Funk, 64, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.

A rosary will be held Wednesday at St. Pius X Church in Mountlake Terrace at 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X.

Janice was born on

Aug. 26, 1939, in Havre to Jay and Virginia Fried. Jay died during World War II. Her mom then married Thomas "Bud" Toner, who raised Jan as his own. Jan attended school in Gildford and graduated with a degree in nursing from Montana State University in Bozeman.

Jan married Eugene "Gino" Giliberto in 1961 and they had five children. The family traveled extensively with the Boeing Co., living in many different states. Jan and Gino later divorced.

Jan married Eugene "Gene" Funk in 1989 and they resided in Brier, Wash. Jan worked as a registered nurse and retired in 1999.

Jan loved her husband, children and grandchildren. If anyone had a problem, it was best solved at a restaurant over pie and coffee. Jan and Gene were members of the Lynnwood Eagles and liked camping and traveling in their RV. Her favorite hobbies were reading, going to the casino and baking.

Jan was preceded in death by her father, Jay Fried; stepfather, Bud Toner; and brother, William.

Survivors include her husband of 15 years, Eugene Funk; children, Treva (Dean) Eman of Minot, N.D., Christina (Larry) Parsons of Havre, Kelly Gales of Tacoma, Wash., Tricia Tahsuda of Tempe, Ariz., Daniel (Shelly) Giliberto of Everett, Wash.; stepchildren, Mike Funk of Cave Creek, Ariz., Jon Funk of Bothell, Wash., Melissa (Jorge) Samoza of Okinawa, Japan, Emily Funk of Poulsbo, Wash.; brothers, Jack (Mary Nell) Fried of Denver, Colo., Tom Toner of Victor, Dave Toner of Gildford and Jerry (Jody) Toner of Havre; sisters, Lynn (Jim) Heydon of Missoula and Mary Lou (Chuck) Dees of Kremlin; mother, Virginia Toner of Gildford; 13 grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
