Albert Frances Greytak, 101, died Thursday evening, Aug. 12, 2004, at his home of natural causes.
A prayer vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today at St. Jude's Catholic Church with Tim Maroney officiating. The funeral Mass will be
10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude's Catholic Church with the Rev. Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held immediately after the graveside service at the St. Jude Parish Center.
Albert was born on Sept. 2, 1902, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Grajcar) Greytak in Stockett. He attended school in Great Falls and Belt. He moved to the Simpson community to the family homestead in 1916, and later proved up on his own homestead. He farmed until the age of 94.
Albert married Gladys I. Thompson, a school teacher, on Jan. 6, 1930, in Havre at St. Jude's Catholic Church. The couple lived north of Havre, where they farmed and raised their 12 children. They spent their married life on the farm until 1996, when they moved into Havre. Gladys died on Aug. 28, 1997.
Albert was a member of St. John's Catholic Church at Cottonwood and St. Jude's Catholic Church in Havre.
When he was not involved with the farming or his cattle, he enjoyed working in his shop, where he was quite inventive and creative. He had a complete shop with many of the machines being of his own making. He loved to travel and enjoyed family picnics in the Bear Paw Mountains.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Gladys in 1997.
Survivors include his sons, Bob (Donna) Greytak of Gildford, Jim (Sandy) Greytak, Tom (Diana) Greytak, Bill (Patty) Greytak, all of North Havre, and Don Greytak of Havre; daughters, Catherine Anne (Wade) Bickford of Havre, Carol (Bud) Boyce of Warrick, Pat (Nick) Faber of Chinook, Karen (Larry) Norsworthy of Cheyenne, Wyo., Judy (Jerry) Somdahl of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Susan Stai of Billings and Debbie (Michael) Lee of Helena; 33 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
Memorials in Albert's honor may be made to the Havre/Hill County Library, 403 Third St., Havre, MT 59501, or to the St. Jude Thaddeus School, 624 Fourth St., Havre, MT 59501.
