DAWN WHITE obituary

SACO - Dawn Fern White, 82, of Saco died on Friday, July 9, 2004, at a Malta rest home where she had been a resident since December 2003.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Saco Methodist Church with interment in the Grandview Cemetery.

Dawn was born

Nov. 22, 1921, in Saco to Lewis and Maysie (Korman) Bingham. She was raised and educated in Saco.

She married Stanley Amott in 1937. They later divorced.

She married Kenneth White on May 31, 1947. Dawn was the telephone switchboard operator and the manager of the Saco telephone office until it went over to dial system. She was a waitress in both Saco and Malta. Dawn also did government work in Washington, D.C. Ken and Dawn spent 51 years together on the farm and ranch raising pigs, cows and beautiful crops.

Dawn enjoyed baking, reading, writing letters, collecting elephants, fishing, and playing cards with family and friends. She started a neighborhood pinochle club in 1950 and was active in it until 2002. She was a member of the Saco Methodist Church, Rainbow Rebekah Lodge, and Eastern Star. Dawn was one of the founders of the Saco Senior Citizens, where she loved playing and calling bingo. She had an active part in the Saco Youth Center that was in the old C.P. Martin Store and enjoyed her leadership with the Theta Rho girls.

Dawn was always helping take care of others, caring first for her grandmother Korman and continuing to care for members of her family throughout her life. Dawn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; daughter, Cheeri Akre; and son-in-law, Dale Wehrly.

Survivors include her children, Patsy Wehrly of Havre, Wanda Turner of Helena, Ralph (Carol) White of Miltonvale, Kan., and Gayle (Fred) Hammond and Frank (Barb) White, all of Saco; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her lifelong friend, Jean Joseph of Missoula, who was like a sister.

Memorials may be made to the Saco Methodist Church or a memorial of one's choice.
