HARLEM - Michael E. Matte, 52, died unexpectedly at his mother's residence in Harlem on Sunday, July 4, 2004, due to natural causes.
A funeral Mass will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in St. Thomas Catholic Church. Michael was born on Jan. 2, 1952, at Fort Belknap Agency to Edward and Vivian (Short) Matte. He attended school in Harlem and graduated from Hays High School in 1970. He moved to Seattle and married Anna Kompkoff. They later divorced and he returned to Montana and married Edwina Stump.
Michael worked as a cook, in construction, for the BIA as a firefighter and did farm work in the area. He enjoyed cooking and loved to hunt, fish, camp, create artwork and play basketball.
Michael is survived by his mother, Vivian Ziemann of Harlem; son, Chad Matte of Harlem; daughters, Daria Matte and Vivian Matte, both of Seattle, and Lilly Jo Halseth of Billings; brothers, John Matte and Patrick Ziemann, both of Harlem; sister, Tina Short of Choteau; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
