GENE KURTZ obituary

Gene G. Kurtz, 68, retired Havre physician, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at a Havre hospital of natural causes.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. next Tuesday at the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vaundalee Delong offi-

ciating. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service.

Gene was born on Sept. 16, 1935, to Blaine M. and Irene M. (Mitchell) Kurtz in Wellington, Kan. He was raised and educated in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School in 1953. He attended The University of Kansas and obtained his bachelor's degree in 1957.

Gene married Maryanna Wuttke Dec. 26, 1960, in Pleasanton, Kan. He then went on to achieve his medical degree in 1961 at the University of Kansas. Gene served his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kan., in 1962. Upon completing his internship, Gene then served with the U.S. Public Health Service from 1962 to 1964 on the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of New Mexico from 1964-1967. He moved his family to Havre and was associated with the Havre Clinic from 1967 to 1992. Gene then went to work in Chinook at the Sweet Medical Center from 1993 to 1997.

Gene was very active in the Montana State Chapter of the American Heart Association for several years. He enjoyed gardening, reading and canoeing on the Missouri.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Maryanna Kurtz of Havre; sons, Charles A. Kurtz of St. Paul, Minn., and Matthew B. Kurtz of Ogdensburg, N.J.; sister, Elaine Sitterley of Grand Junction, Colo.; brother, Dwaine D. Kurtz of Greeley, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
