Lois E. Kraft, 83, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at a Havre care center of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place and a prayer vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel. A memorial Mass being held at 2
p.m. Wednesday at St. Jude's Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert D. Grosch officiating. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held immediately after the cemetery service at the St. Jude Parish Center.
Lois was born on Feb. 14, 1921, north of Gildford to Joseph and Dena (Halverson) Sande. She was raised and educated in the Gildford and Hingham areas. She graduated from Gildford High School in 1939. She attended Northern Montana College on a basketball scholarship for one year.
Lois married Leo Kraft on Dec. 28, 1940, at Our Lady Of Ransom Catholic Church in Hingham. The couple lived in Hingham, where Leo farmed. They had two daughters. The family moved to Havre in 1947 so the girls could attend St. Jude School and then spent their summers in Hingham on the farm. Lois was very active in the Havre community, serving on the hospital auxiliary and the St. Jude Church Auxiliary. She was a member of a bridge club and was an avid bowler. Her husband, Leo, built the bowling alley in Havre. Lois also enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was an avid sports watcher and was always current on the basketball teams.
Lois liked to travel, and she and Leo went to Europe twice, and traveled to Hawaii and Mexico. They wintered in Arizona and summered in Bigfork. Leo died in 1989, and Lois moved back to Havre. She lived at the Eagles Manor for two years, when she broke her hip and had to move to the Northern Montana Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters; and six brothers.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Gorman and Dolores (George) Noffsinger, both of Havre; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials in Lois's honor may be made to St. Jude's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 407, Havre, MT 59501, or to the Northern Montana Care Center, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501.
