Richard John "Dick" Hary, former business owner and longtime resident of Havre, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at a Havre hospital due to heart disease.
Cremation will take place and his memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert D. Grosch officiating. A private family interment will be held later on Thursday.
Richard was born on Nov. 19, 1937, in Havre to John and Cecelia (White) Hary. He was raised and educated in Havre and attended St. Jude
School. He graduated from Havre Central High School in 1956. He then attended Gonzaga University in Washington, studying economics. After graduation, Dick returned to Havre and joined his father in business as the co-owner of the Park Hotel and Pancake House. He later purchased Rod's Drive Inn. Dick retired from the restaurant business in 2000.
Dick was a generous contributor to Montana State University-Northern and its basketball programs. He was one of Northern's loyal basketball fans and rarely missed a game. Dick also enjoyed reading, trap shooting, traveling and spending time visiting with his family and friends. Dick leaves behind many gifts of love and kindness. He was a beloved, father, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Earl Hary in 1939.
Survivors include his children, Stacy (Doug) Tatko of Spokane, Wash., Lori (Mike) Nault of Havre, Kim (Joe) Snarr of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Doug Hary of Washington, D.C.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial's in Dick's honor may be made to the Montana State University-Northern Foundation, P.O. Box 1691, Havre, MT 59501.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
