Clarence H. Ratchye, 92, retired district manager of the Montana State Highway Department in Havre, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at a Havre care center of natural causes.
At his request no services are being planned and cremation will take place.
Clarence was born on Jan. 19, 1912, in Whitefish to Christian and Gay (Colvin) Ratchye. He
attended school in Kalispell and graduated from Flathead County High School. After high school, Clarence worked various jobs, and in 1936 he went to work for the Montana Department of Highways in Helena.
He married Kathryn E. McLean on Oct. 7, 1939, in Great Falls. Clarence transferred to the Havre division office in 1939 and retired as office manager in 1975.
Clarence enjoyed reading, walking, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was a former member of the Havre Jaycee's and the past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathryn; son, David Ratchye; and brother, Fred Ratchye.
Survivors include his daughter, Leslie K. Atkins of Arlington, Va.; son, James C. Ratchye of Lakeside; sister, Dorothy Jenkins of Hastings, Neb.; and five grandchildren.
Memorials in Clarence's honor may be made to the Northern Rockies Cancer Center, P.O. Box 389, Billings, MT 59103 or to the H. Earl Clack Museum, 315 Fourth St., Havre, MT 59501.
Arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
