The Hill County Clerk and Recorder's Office is reminding voters of some important changes that will be in effect for the first time in the June 8 primary election.
This will be the first election in which every elector will be required to show identification at the polling place to vote. That ID can include:
Photo ID, including driver's license; tribal, student or state employee ID; a credit card with a picture; or a Costco or Sam's Club card.
Any government document - local, state or federal - that has the person's name and address on it, including a voter confirmation card, vehicle registration, and Social Security or Medicaid documentation.
Another change is that reapportionment of the state's House and Senate districts, which takes place every 10 years, has caused several precinct boundary changes. Precincts 11 and 12 in the city of Havre were eliminated and became part of adjacent precincts 2, 7 and 10. Other significant boundary changes occurred in Precincts 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 and 18. Those who voted in one of these precincts and are unsure of their polling place can call the Clerk and Recorder's Office for new voting location information.
In March, voter confirmation cards were mailed to all registered electors in Hill County notifying them of their correct polling place. However, many voters may be unaware of their current polling place because a significant number of cards were returned as undeliverable by the post office. If a voter feels she or he should have received a voter confirmation card from the Clerk and Recorder's Office in March but did not, that person should call to search voting records for verification of voter status.
Polling locations for Precincts 9 and 15 have moved. Precinct 9, previously located at the Havre High School library, is now voting at the District IV Human Resources Development Council building, 2229 Fifth Ave. in Havre. The building is the former Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.
Precinct 15 has moved from Havre Ford to the Hill County Electric Co-op hospitality room, 2121 U.S. Highway 2 W. in Havre.
Voters who have questions about their polling place, voter status or the form of identification required for voting should call the Clerk and Recorder's Office at 265-5481, ext. 221 or 222.
