Percy P. Hobbs, 101, former mechanic and farmer, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at a Havre care center of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place. His graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Cemetery in Havre.
Percy was born on May 22, 1903, in the Bear Paw
Mountains south of Havre to Augustus William and Mary Louise (Griffin) Hobbs. Percy grew up in the Bear Paw Mountains and worked on various ranches and farms in the area. In later years he went to Seattle, Wash., where he worked in the lumber industry as a cabinet maker.
When Percy returned to the Bear Paws, he met Alice White. They were married at Rocky Boy's Agency on Aug. 14, 1931. The couple made their home at Rocky Boy and then later they moved to Box Elder, where Percy farmed. Percy also worked as an auto mechanic for Angstman Motors in Havre for 20 years. His wife Alice died in 1966. After her death he retired and moved from the family farm in Box Elder to the Eagles Manor in Havre. He was one of the Eagles Manor's first residents.
Percy enjoyed his family and friends. He also liked to travel, fish and play card games. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed walking.
Percy was preceded in death by his wife, Alice White Hobbs; brother, Agustus Hobbs; and sister, Florence Marchand.
Survivors include his son, Clement (Jeanne) Hobbs of Box Elder; daughter, Ruth (Lee Roy "Sunny") Hobbs Houle of Great Falls; sister, Louise Hobbs of Waverly, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Eagles Manor, 20 W. Third St., Havre, MT 59501 or to the North Central Senior Citizens Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
