Chester sweeps District 10C track meet

The Chester Coyote track teams put on dominant performances at the District 10C track meet at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls on Thursday.

The Chester boys scored 251 team points, beating second-place Valier by more than 100 points. Valier scored 143.

Chester had several multiple-event winners, led by senior Travis VanDyke, who captured three events on the day. VanDyke won the 110 and 300 hurdles and the javelin. VanDyke edged teammate Kevin May in the 300 hurdles and teammates Casey Buffington and Mitch Violett in the javelin.

Patrick Walstad captured a pair of events. Walstad won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:43.61, beating teammate Isaac VanDyke by almost 10 seconds. In his best event, the 800, Walstad broke his own meet record with a time of 2:01.23.

Patrick Wicks won both of the short sprints for the Coyotes. Wicks won the 100 with a time of 11.69 and the 200 with a time of 24.44. Other event winners for Chester were Isaac VanDyke in the 3,200 and Violett in the discus. Chester's 1,600-meter relay team was also victorious with a quality time of 3:43.71.

On the girls side, the Coyotes were equally impressive, scoring 201 team points, easily outpacing second place Dutton/Brady with 114.

Jillien Johnson won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs while finishing third in the pole vault. Johnson held off teammate Kelsey Schweitzer in both distance events to pick up the titles.

Brittany Kolstad also won two events for Chester, capturing the 100 and 300 hurdles. Other event winners for Chester included Mikinzie Fraser in the 400, Shawnee Norick in the 800 and Leisha Kolstad in the long jump.

The Coyotes will be at Thursday's Ralph Halverson Northern C Divisional track meet in Great Falls.
