JACK JUDD SR. obituary

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - Jack Reid Judd, 83, longtime publisher of the Havre Daily News, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at a Twin Falls retirement estate after a long battle with diabetes.

A memorial service is planned for noon Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1301 N. Davis in Jerome, Idaho. Friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Parke's

Magic Valley Funeral Home in Jerome, 2551 Kimberly Road in Twin Falls. A private inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park.

Jack was born on Feb. 27, 1921, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Hugh Hastings and LaVera Jensen Judd. He lived in Rupert, where he attended school through graduation. He then moved to San Diego, Calif.

After taking a course in aircraft mechanics in Glendale, Calif., he worked for Consolidated. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. His tour of duty was in the China-Burma-India theater, where he spent 2 years in India.

Upon his discharge in 1946, Jack met Eldine Klauser of Rupert and they were married on Jan. 30, 1946, in Rupert. They moved to Los Angeles, where he attended Woodbury College and received his bachelor of science degree in commercial art and advertising.

In 1948, they moved to Twin Falls, where Jack worked for the Times News. It was the start in the newspaper field that covered Nampa, Idaho, Ben, Ore., Klamath Falls, Ore., Pocatello, Idaho, Havre and Bozeman. Jack was publisher of the Havre Daily News from Feb. 1, 1966, to March 30, 1978, and the Bozeman Daily Chronicle from April 1, 1978, to Sept. 30, 1980. He was publisher of the Tacoma Suburban Times from October 1980 to July of 1981, when he retired.

Jack was active in Rotary International and served as president of the Havre club. He was past president of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Montana Press Association and member of the board of directors for the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Association.

Survivors include his wife, Eldine of Twin Falls; son, Jack (Mary) Judd Jr. of Lincoln, Neb.; daughter Sharon (Noel) Ruhter of Jerome, Idaho; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.
