HARLEM - Charles H. Gilbert, 95, a longtime farmer and trapper of Blaine County, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at a Havre hospital due to natural causes.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery.
Charles
was born on Feb. 12, 1909, in Parks, Neb., to Millard and Emma (Talmon) Gilbert. He attended schools in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Charlo, Montana. He moved to Chinook when the beet factory was built. Charles married Rose Bahr on August 3, 1942 in Chester.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Gilbert of Harlem; sons, Ron (Sheila) Gilbert of Libby, Gene (Ginny) Gilbert of Arlington, Wash., and Steve Gilbert of Rock Hill, S.C.; daughters, Karla (Richard) Schrade of Libby, Cheryl Gilbert of Great Falls and Luriene Winney of Alderwood Manor, Wash.; brothers, Lewis Gilbert of Harlem, Quinton Gilbert of Acworth, Ga., Kenneth Gilbert of Chester and Gaylord Gilbert of Vaughn; sisters, Elsie Nelson, Louisa Woeppel and Lilly Kretchmer, all of Havre, and Iris Hay of Hood River, Ore.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and son, Roger Gilbert in 1970.
Memorials may be sent to the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook.
Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
