JOE KINSELLA obituary

Joe Kinsella, 85, lifelong rancher in the Bear Paw Mountains south of Havre, died Sunday,

May 2, 2004,

at St.

Vincent Hospital in Billings with his family at his side.

Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rocky Boy Catholic

Church. A

funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Jude's Catholic Church in Havre.

Joe was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Havre to Lawrence and Anna (Pflepsen) Kinsella. Following the death of his parents, Joe assumed the responsibility of operating the family ranch at the age of 15. In the heart of the Bear Paw Mountains, Joe raised quality Hereford and Angus cattle.

Joe married his lifelong sweetheart, Elizabeth "Bette" Luoma, on Aug. 31, 1940. He met Bette when she came to the Bear Paws to teach at the Faber School. Together they shared the hard work and joy of ranching and treasured their neighbors and friends throughout Montana.

Survivors include his wife, Bette; children, Jerry (Laura) Kinsella, Ron Kinsella, Bob (Sanda) Kinsella, Patricia Holman, Larry (Judy) Kinsella, Lois Frerck; sister, Eleanor; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sisters; and great-granddaughter, Neely-Sue.

Joe's siblings included one brother, Nikolas "Burke" (Rose) and five sisters, Rosemary (Bill) Shoenen, Pat (Al) Cummer, Gertude (Bill) Florin, Ceil (Reece) Barber-Keller and Eleanor (John) Kantola

Joe appreciated good horses, quality cattle, dancing with his bride and fine conversation Joe was a devoted family man, stockman and legend to many.

The family suggests memorials be made in Joe's honor to the Rocky Boy Catholic Church, St. Vincent Hospital oncology and acute therapy centers, R-Calf or the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch.
