HARLEM - Josephine "Josie" Green, 86, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at a Havre hospital.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Harlem High School Gymnasium. Burial will follow in the Harlem Cemetery.
Josie was born on May 2, 1917, at McCluskey, N.D., to
Jacob and Catherine (Fost) Hellman. The family came to Montana in 1917 and lived in the Malta-Chapman communities until 1932, when it moved to Harlem.
Josie married Julius "Juke" Green on Dec. 7, 1933, in the Catholic Church at Chinook. They farmed west of Harlem and lived on the farm until 1952, when they moved to Harlem. Josie worked at the Harlem Rest Home for 38 years, Northern Montana Hospital for seven years and Sweet Memorial Nursing Home for four years.
She thoroughly enjoyed her jobs, the times she spent with many friends she made through her work and the patients that she served. She was liked by her friends and appreciated by all of her compassion and thoughtfulness to everyone she encountered.
Josie is survived by daughter, Nancy Larson of Anchorage, Alaska; sons, Frank Green of Eugene, Ore., Dr. Richard Green of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jerry Green of Fairbanks, Alaska, Robert Green of Cape Coral, Fla., and Fred Green of Harlem; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa Harding and Marie Gratz, both of Helena, and Dorothy Burch of Townsend; brothers, Wilford Hellman of Chinook and Irvin Hellman of Mesquite, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to the Harlem Senior Citizens Center.
Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
