MATILDA CONVERSE Obituary

Matilda Mary Wells Converse, 84, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at a Havre hospital of natural causes.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel with Marvin Russette officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery. A

fellowship luncheon will be held at the Eagles immediately following the services at the graveside.

Matilda was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Williston, N.D., to Alex and Virginia (Kline) Wells. As a young girl she moved to Rocky Boy. She attended schools in Box Elder and for a short time at the Hay's Mission and then attended Rocky Boy High School.

She moved to Havre and she met and married Leonard "Butch" Converse in 1948. Matilda worked at the North Central Senior Citizens Center as a housekeeper for more than 10 years.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, embroidery, growing plants, attending garage sales, listening to gospel and country music, traveling, and cooking for her family and friends. Her favorite pastime was playing guitar and listening to her brother and her son's music.

Matilda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Converse; second husband, Frank Christensen; brothers, Peter and Clarence Wells; daughter-in-law, Karen Converse; and one grandson, Robert Lester.

Survivors include her sons, Leonard (Beverly) Converse, Norman C. (Gloria Little Owl) Converse, Edwin (Barbara) Converse, all of Havre; brother, Charles Wells of Polson; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Matilda's honor may be made to the Northern Montana Care Center or to Northern Montana Hospital, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
