DENZIL BARKER obituary

ALAMOGORDOD0, N.M. - Denzil "Denny" Jay Barker, 69, of Alamogordo, N.M., died Sunday, April 11, 2004, in Alamogordo.

Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled.

Denny was born June 15, 1934, in Bismarck, N.D., to John W. and Vivian Barker. The family moved to Montana in 1938 and he was raised in Glasgow and Havre. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and served four years in England and Germany. Upon his discharge in 1956, he returned to Havre and became a carpenter.

Denny later moved to California where he was confined to a wheelchair after being involved in an accident. In spite of his handicap, he traveled extensively throughout the United States, and for more than 40 years maintained his independence.

In 1974, he married Betty Simms and she preceded him in death.

Denny later moved to Camp Verde, Ariz., and in 2001, moved to Alamogordo. He is remembered for his patriotism, sense of humor and love for his dog, KC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a nephew.

Survivors include his brother, Chris Barker of Wills Point, Texas; sisters, Yvonne (Orvin) Beck of Fort Peck and Doreen Miller of Havre; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hamilton-ODell Funeral Home, Alamogordo, N.M.
