ROBERT WAID obituary

Robert Stanley Waid, 75, retired rancher, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at a Havre care facility of natural causes.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church with the Rev. VaunDalee DeLong officiating. Cremation

has taken place. Interment will be at the Highland Cemetery in Havre with DeLong officiating. A fellowship reception will be held at the church following the committal service.

Robert was born June 14, 1928, to Carl and Berniece (Wolary) Waid at the home of his grandmother in Chinook. He grew up on the Waid ranch on Bullhook south of Havre. He attended Havre Public Schools and graduated from Havre High School in 1945.

He married Betty M. Hiebert July of 1950.

After their marriage, Robert worked for the Havre Transfer Co., Great Plains Lumber and was yard foreman for Havre Stockyards. He also worked for the Sterling Ranch from 1953 until 1963, running the ranch for Dan O'Neil and then Curt Reum. In 1959 he purchased a part of the P+ ranch south of Havre and ran it on the side.

In 1963 he returned to the Waid ranch when his father retired, and purchased the ranch in 1968. In 1993 he sold the ranch to his son and daughter-in-law, Lon and Stacey Waid. In 1995 Robert and Betty moved into Havre due to health reasons.

Robert served on the FHA Board and as a 4-H leader. He belonged to the North Central Stockgrowers, and the Hill County Scale Association. He was noted for being a keen stockman and rancher, and took great pride in his family and career.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Frances (1937) and Melinda Waid (1991).

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Waid of Havre; sons, Larry (Becky) Waid of Helena, Lon (Stacey) Waid of Havre; daughters, Lora Waid of Billings, Lois (John) Leeds of Helena, Lynn (Jeff) Ploutz of Santa Maria, Calif., and Lila (Brian) Wirt of Kintyre, N.D .; sisters, Dorine (Quannah) Bailey of Chester and Carryl Young of Malta; former daughter-in-law, Dory Waid of Sun River; 14 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to a person's choice.
