ELEANOR NEWBY obituary

BUTTE - Eleanor Lois Newby, 84, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at her home in Butte.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Butte Assembly of God Church. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the church with her sons officiating. Interment wil be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Eleanor was born on Jan. 31, 1920, at her grandparents farm near Fergus Falls, Minn., to Evan and Anna (Sethre) Ryen. Following her father's death, her mother moved the family to their homestead near Harlem.

On April 4, 1943, Eleanor married Joseph Newby in Havre and they lived in many Montana communities, where he was pastor. She worked at J.C. Penney stores part time in several communities, but always put her family first.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Conrad and Arthur Ryen.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Joe Newby of Butte; sons, the Rev. Darrel (Vivian) Newby of Columbia Falls, the Rev. Bryon (Linda) Newby of Lake Stevens, Wash., and the Rev. Jay (Michone) Newby of Butte; 12 grandchildren; and one foster grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Highlands Hospice or the Assembly of God Church.
