JOHN CAVEN obituary

John C. Caven, 61, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at a Seattle hospital of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), a rare blood infection.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyter-ian in Havre with the Revs. David Crockett and Zoe Coutts officiating. Cremation has taken

place. A private family interment will take place at a later time. A fellowship reception will be held at the family home in Havre following the memorial service.

John Covert Caven was born on Jan. 2, 1943, to William and Mary Jane (Aber) Caven in Winnemucca, Nev. The family moved to Chico, Calif., when he was very young. He attended schools in Durham, Calif., and graduated from Durham High School in 1961. He attended the Pacific Coast Banking College of the University of Washington, graduating in 1976.

On Oct. 6, 1962, he married Sharon L. Peck-Riegelhuth in Chico, Calif. In 1967 the family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where John was a vice president of the Alaska National Bank. In 1977 the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he served as the administrator for the Southern Region of the Alaska National Bank. In 1979, the Cavens moved to Havre with the First Security Bank, where John served as president from 1981 to 1991. In 1994, he was the court appointed receiver of the Holiday Village Shopping Center until 1999.

John was an avid fan of the Havre Blue Pony and Montana State University-Northern Lights wrestling programs. He loved golfing and the study of whales.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Caven of Havre; son, John Christopher (Modesty) Caven of Havre; two grandchildren; brother, Davy A. (Elaine) Caven of Cheney, Wash.; sister, Malinda Caven of Oroville, Calif.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and cousins.
