ROCKY BOY - Lucille Windy Boy, 79, died

Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at a Big Sandy nursing home of natural causes.

A wake service will begin 4 p.m. today at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church. A

funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church with Native American Traditional Services. Burial will follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery.

Lucille was born on Feb. 24, 1924, to John Little Sun and Rose Walking Child in Gleason, Alberta, Canada. As an infant she returned to Rocky Boy where she was raised and educated.

She married Sam Windy Boy Sr. and they had 11 children.

Lucille worked for Rocky Boy Schools as a cook and was also employed as the BIA secretary. She taught teepee making and was world-renowned as a teepee maker with her work in south France, Italy and Germany.

She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, baking, and quilt making.

She was an active community member who promoted education and raised her children in a traditional environment. She always encouraged the Native American traditions. Lucille loved to sing and dance in powwows, travel, meet people and play hand games, often playing in tournaments.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam Windy Boy Sr .; sisters, Mary Lodge Pole, Sella Little Sun; twin boys; one daughter; grandson, Darren Stump; and great-granddaughter Christy Dawn Stump.

Survivors include her children, Louise Stump of Rocky Boy, Sam Windy Boy Jr. of Davidsonville, Md., William Windy Boy of Ashland, Chester Windy Boy, Kevin Windy Boy, Arthur Windy Boy, Mary Windy Boy, Wendy Bradley, Elaine Coffee, all of Rocky Boy, and Rachel Murrillo of Fort Hall, Idaho; adopted children, Toby Zorthian Edmonton, Alberta, Fred Gone of Fort Belknap, Gerald Preston Stiffarm of Fort Belknap and Carita Acebeto of Lame Deer; 57 grandchildren; and 78 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
