SELENA PAULSON obituary

SPOKANE, Wash. - Selena T. Paulson, 100, former Havre resident died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at a Spokane care center of natural causes.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church. The Eastern Star Funeral Rites will be said at 9:15 a.m. with

Worthy Matron Elaine Roseman presiding and the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. with the Rev. VaunDalee Delong officiating. A memorial service will be held at the Riverview Terrace in Spokane Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Selena was born on March 20, 1903, to Levi and Martha M. (Sypes) Toulouse in Thornton, Iowa. She moved with her family from Thornton to homestead in Montana. She grew up and was educated in Montana and graduated from Roundup High School. She then attended College at the Western Montana Normal College in Dillon and later the University of Montana.

She met Willard C. Paulson in 1925 and the couple were married on June 19, 1926, in Dillon. She and Willard taught school in several towns in Montana and moved to Havre to open a business.

Selena and Willard were very active in the lives of their two children, Van Orsdel United Methodist Church, Scouting, the schools, and Masons and Eastern Star. Selena loved all of God's creation, but most of all people. She was a friend to young men and women and remained in touch for many years. Her old friends remained friends and she made new friends when she moved to Spokane. Her poetry and her ability to read and share stories brought delight to many, young and old.

Selena was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Martha Toulouse; and husband of 72 years, Willard C. Paulson.

Survivors include her daughter, Wanda (Ernest) Dieterich of Spokane, Wash.; son, Dale W. (Nancy) Paulson of Helena; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials in Selena's honor may be made to the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church, 410 Fifth Ave., Havre, MT 59501.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home in Spokane, Wash., and Holland and Bonine Funeral Home in Havre.
